Usually when we do Real Weddings, they are big and extravagant receptions that are each unique in their own way. What makes this Real Wedding unique is it’s small and intimate size (around 30 guests) – which didn’t make it any less beautiful. The Adirondacks is breathtaking and makes for a great setting for any wedding. Some of the bride’s family came from as far as the UK and most guests stayed somewhere on the property for the weekend. During the ceremony, every guest present had the opportunity to warm and bless the rings just before they were exchanged. The couple also incorporated children into their ceremony, who helped with a group ring warming. NYWB’s Jessica Rowell from Carissa Ceremonies was there as the officiant for the ceremony back in August and wanted to feature it on our blog because of how special she felt it was. After hearing from the down-to-earth couple and seeing the pictures from Empire West Photo, I couldn’t agree more.

How did you choose the location for your wedding? We hike in the Adirondacks regularly and love being in the Keene/Keene Valley area. Jay came across The Mountain House on and it fit us to a T :) We had lots of family from out of town and wanted to show them a new part of NY and make it a weekend getaway for everyone.

What made you decide to have a small, intimate wedding ceremony? We wanted to be able to spend quality time with our families, and the best way to do that was to have a small wedding. A small wedding with the people who mean the most to us – perfect!

What made you decide to incorporate children with the ring warming? I wanted my niece and nephew to be a part of the wedding since it’s very rare that we see them. I knew how excited they were to come to the wedding, so we wanted it to be memorable for them as well. They did such a great job!

What made your ceremony/reception unique? The location was AMAZING. It was so beautiful and relaxing, everyone felt comfortable and had a great time.

What was the most memorable moment of your wedding day? During dinner we took a moment to just sit and watch our families laughing and talking. It was so amazing to have everyone in the same place, we were so thankful. We just soaked in the day. It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it!

Do you have any advice to give to future brides and grooms? Have fun with it! It’s at least a years worth of planning, so make it yours and make it fun. Remember, no matter how stressed you may get, it will all be worth it.

What’s next for you as a couple? Honeymoon! We’re going to Costa Rica in November and then hopefully India next year. We’ll probably buy a house and a dog next year as well – can’t wait!
